The intent of my art is to present nature in different perspectives to the viewer and thus challenge them intellectually and emotionally to reflect on their personal relationship with nature. The views are intentionally framed in an almost surrealistic way, but juxtaposed with the high fidelity realistic 3D computer graphic representation of the earth, ecology, trees, plants and flowers. Furthermore, the heightened realism is the result of a scientific visualization process based on data derived from my PhD research.

Earth Perspectives 2006

This is a set of six individual photographs of a virtual ecology, Trillium Trail, located in Fox Chapel, PA. This wildflower reserve is known for wildflowers in the springtime, the Trillium. Together, they guide the viewer to see the forest from the perspective of the earth, close to a flower, underneath the terrain, below a waterfall or at the bottom of a great tree. The viewer is challenged once again with a surrealistic perspective and a higher, more detailed, super realistic image.

Forest Curtains 2006

This piece invites the viewer to think about our domestic relationship with the forests outside our homes. The printed modules are small works of art hung as a larger collage and twisted in perspective. In the suburbs we place curtains on our windows, even if our neighbors are a few acres away. We divide the land into grids and plots for our houses, we cut down all of the trees, we poison our lawns to kill all of the life and then we hang curtains on the windows to block the view. Is this rational? It may be a piece about death in the end - curtains.
